This study has a personal connection, as I am Canadian First Nations, who was never given the opportunity to learn my ancestral Blackfoot language. Language is closely intertwined with cultural in which is creates a solid foundation for all individuals. The process consists of interviewing three language and culture teachers from the Santa Ynez Chumash tribal community. The purpose of this study is to share their separate personal narratives and raise awareness of their journey of reawakening their ancestral language, but more importantly reclaiming their power as Indigenous peoples.
